This study aims to improve our understanding of endocrine complications after transplantation and to optimize long-term care for transplant recipients.

Obital Diseases Science Lab (ODSL)

The ODSL (Ophthalmic Disease and Systemic Laboratory) investigates the molecular mechanisms, risk factors, and novel therapeutic approaches of Graves’ Orbitopathy (GO), an inflammatory eye disease that typically occurs in association with Graves’ disease.

Endocrine Pathology Working Group

We examine specimens from the thyroid, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, and neuroendocrine tumors. Using microscopic examination along with additional techniques—such as immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology—we are able to make precise diagnoses.

Clinical Research Working Group on Neuroendocrine Tumours (NET)

At our centre, we are deeply committed to continuously improving the diagnosis, treatment and long-term care of patients with neuroendocrine tumours (NET).

Group Molecular Thyroidology

Thyroid hormones (TH) are not only essential for normal brain development, but also influence the metabolism and function of nearly every cell in the body. To exert their function, TH require transporters, which are located in the cell membrane and mediate the cellular uptake and efflux of TH.

Pediatric Neuroendocrinology

In the Pediatric Neuroendocrinology Research Group, we investigate how hormones influence the developing brain of children and adolescents—especially during sensitive developmental periods such as puberty.

Thyroid hormone action in the hepatobiliary system

We investigate the impact of a systemic and local hepatic TH action in acute and cholestatic liver disease.

Thyroid hormones and brain functions

Our group strives to understand the mechanisms of TH action in neural development and function and how these processes are affected if central TH signaling is perturbed.

Thyroid hormones and their receptors: how they work and what they do

Our group investigates the diverse actions of thyroid hormones (TH) and their receptors (TRs) α and β, with the goal of understanding the mechanisms of TH action and translating these insights into therapeutic strategies.

Sex- and gender-sensitive analysis of genetic mechanisms in body weight regulation with regard to eating disorders and obesity

Body weight regulation is a complex biological process that is shaped by an interplay of environmental and genetic factors.

Our “Thyroid Oncology Research Unit” at the CEM is dedicated to the comprehensive research and treatment of malignant thyroid diseases.

Psy-GeneKids

Approximately 70% to 80% of rare diseases have a genetic etiology. Significantly more than half of those affected show (initial) symptoms in childhood. Those affected often have global developmental delay or intellectual disability.
